Step Into a World of Myths and Legends with Kevin Crossley-Holland

Saturday 10 October 2026 | Bury St Edmunds Literature Festival

For centuries, myths and legends have captured our imaginations, carrying tales of adventure, courage and extraordinary characters from one generation to the next.

On Saturday 10 October 2026, acclaimed author and storyteller Kevin Crossley-Holland brings that rich storytelling tradition to a new generation as part of the Bury St Edmunds Literature Festival.

In a lively, interactive workshop at Bury St Edmunds Library, Kevin will invite children to explore the ancient worlds of Norse mythology, Arthurian legend and traditional folk tales. But this won’t simply be an afternoon of listening. Through storytelling, drama and imagination, children will have the opportunity to step inside the stories and become part of the action themselves.

Kevin’s books, including Norse Myths, Norse Tales and Arthur: Almost King, have introduced generations of young readers to some of our greatest traditional stories.

A prize-winning poet, novelist and translator from Anglo-Saxon, Kevin won the Carnegie Medal for Storm and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize for The Seeing Stone, the first book in his celebrated Arthur trilogy. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he lives in north Norfolk and has devoted much of his writing life to exploring the myths, legends and stories that connect us with the past.

Whether children are already fascinated by Norse gods and Arthurian knights or are discovering these stories for the first time, this promises to be an engaging afternoon of creativity, imagination and storytelling with one of Britain’s most distinguished writers for young people.
